Validation AB deploys STINGA in their test centreGrimstad (Norway), August 25th, 2003: Validation AB has chosen Utel Systems as a supplier of test instruments for testing and verification of solutions for "Next Generation Networks" (NGN). Validation's customers are carriers and network operators and their business idea is to test new technology on behalf of their customers before it is deployed in the telecom network.
The deployment of new technology in the telecom networks enables network operators to build cost-effective multi-service network solutions. This new technology will be able to handle large and growing volumes of both voice and data traffic. However, the deployment of this technology requires thorough and comprehensive testing and verification of functionality. As a tool for this Validation has chosen the new test instrument STINGA from the Norwegian manufacturer Utel Systems. STINGA is a modular test instrument designed to test the protocols used in solutions for NGN networks.
Signalling protocols like BICC, PNNI and Megaco/H.248 can be monitored and/or tested (simulated) by STINGA. As the simulators for the different protocols are communicating with each other it is possible to generate advanced test scenarios. In this way test engineers may simulate network traffic (signalling) in order to test and verify functionality in NGN systems. STINGA instruments have already been delivered to different carriers and equipment manufacturers in Europe. This summer Validation AB decided to use STINGA as their test solution for testing new systems like the ENGINE platform from Ericsson.
Göran Knutson, senior engineer in Validation has the following to say about STINGA: “After using the STINGA Test Instrument during the validation of Ericsson ENGINE 2.0, we have the following experience of the instrument: STINGA is a very good and easy to use test instrument. It was very easy to learn and to get started with. The help from the support that we got from Utel Systems was very helpful in every way. That includes program and protocol updates, and getting started with the testing. When testing and validating ENGINE 2.0 we found the STINGA test instrument to be a very helpful tool in the process. We used the instrument for monitoring and simulating BICC, ISUP and PNNI. The interworking between the BICC and PNNI simulators was excellent to have and it worked great. The ability that the user has in making own test scripts is very useful and we will therefore strongly recommend the STINGA Test Instrument”.
