New centralized protocol monitoring systems for network operatorsDrammen (Norway), December 7th, 2001: Utel Systems has introduced two new systems for network operators. The systems are centralized protocol monitoring systems targeted at different departments in a carrier's network and operation organisation.
The system "UQoS
PHI" is a protocol monitoring system for connections between the ISDN network
and the X.25 network, called Packet
Handler Interfaces (PHI). Traffic running in X.25 networks is often critical
data such as bank and payment transactions, alarm information etc and it is
therefore important to locate and solve errors in an efficient way. By covering all connections - or 2Mb/s systems between the ISDN network and the X.25 network, users in a central operation centre have an efficient tool for protocol monitoring and error tracking. An operator can for example study all traffic to and from one specific customer. The system can also be used by field engineers through dial-up solutions or by technicians from their home offices/commuters.
The other system, called "UQoS ProMon" is a centralized solution for analysing log files from public switches, or "network elements". In a Java-based protocol monitoring application users in a central operation and maintenance centre can study log files from both the subscriber side (DSS1 - ISDN signalling) and the network side (SS7/C7 signalling). The objective is to quickly locate errors in the network or incorrect configuration terminal equipment or network elements. This will lead to significantly reductions in the network operator's travelling budgets as field engineers no longer have to go out to the local exchange with error tracking equipment. Reduced time for solving the problems and efficient use of central expert personnel are important factors for successful carriers or network operators. The current version of UQoS ProMon now introduced supports Alcatel System 12 switches. The system will be developed to support other switch suppliers.
The two systems are independent of each other and are described in detail in the "Systems" section on Utel Systems web-pages found on www.utelsystems.com/systems.
About Utel Systems Utel Systems was founded in September 1998. The technology and products have been developed for a period of 10 years within Telenor, the major Norwegian telecommunication carrier. The company is focusing on providing their customers with a combination of telecom know-how, price efficient products and systems, on-site training/assistance and fast access to expert support. The products and services are therefore all built on a solid platform of signalling know-how. This platform is continuously strengthened through tight hands on interrelations with the largest customers.
Defining the Nordic countries to be the home market, Utel Systems address the global market of telecommunication carriers, service providers and equipment manufacturers. International sales are however currently focused on Europe and Australia through an increasing network of dedicated, local partners/distributors.
